Limahl is 60 this week
He was born Christopher Hamill in 1958 (not 1962 as one popular encyclopaedic website claims) in Wigan. He originally wanted to be an actor and performed in a touring production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat before landing a small part in the TC drama The Gentle Touch.
Using an anagram of his surname, he took the stage name Limahl and after short-lived tenures with a couple of pop group he joined a group called Art Nouveau who changed their name to Kajagoogoo. They charted seven singles including the 1983 number one Too Shy. He left for a solo career at the end of the same year and had three solo hits including Never ending Story, which reached number four towards the end of 1984.
Let’s remember that hit.
