Stan Laurel would have been 134 this week,

The comedy double act released 106 films between Lucky Dog in 1921 and Atoll K in 1951. They made 34 silent shorts and 45 sound shorts and are still as popular today as they were 100 years ago.

Stan Laurel’s phone number was listed in the phone directory and he used to take calls from fans. He became a bit of a recluse after Oliver Hardy’s death in 1957 because he never really came to terms with it. Stan was the brains behind virtually all their material even though he played the dumb one. Oliver loved to play golf and was happy just turning up for filming.

When Stan died in 1965, Dick van Dyke read the eulogy at his funeral, Dick will be 99 in December.

This is still my favourite short.
