Gilson Lavis


Gilson was the drummer with Squeeze from 1976 to 1992 is celebrating his 70th birthday this week.

Squeeze never made a bad sng and the mojority were story songs with the obvious two being their two biggest hits Cool for Cats and Up the Junction which both made number tow in 1979.

Before joining Squeeze, which he did after seeing an advert in Melody Maker, he had toured the UK with Jerry Lee Lewis, Dolly Parton and Chuck Berry.

He is currently drummer with his former Squeeze band member Jools Holland in Jools Holland’s Rhythm and Blues Orchestra.
