The former Temptations lead singer, Dennis Edwards, would have been 77 this week, but sadly he died two years ago this week.
He joined the group in 1968 to replace David Ruffin and remained with them until 1976. He left later that year but rejoined the group for a further four years in 1984 when he left again for a solo career.
His most successful singles was a duet wth Siedah Garrett on the song Don’t Look Any Further which only reached number 45 on the singles chart. A cover by the Kane Gang in 1988 faired less well reaching umber 52, but in 1993, the song finally got the resognition it deserved when M People took it to number nine.
When his solo career failed to take off he rejoined the Temptation for a third and final time in 1987 where he remained for a couple of years.
He was briefly married to Ruth Pointer of the Pointer Sisters.
In his later years, he battled with meningitis from which he eventually died in Chicago just two days before his 75th birthday.
Let’s remember Don’t Look Any Further.
